Three since since his first appearance on the show, Sam Smith made a triumphant return to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend.

Live from New York, the British vocalist delivered a rousing rendition of “Too Good at Goodbyes” on the show’s vintage subway station backdrop. Surrounded by red roses, a live band, and backup singers, Smith poured out his emotional single.

Switching up the lighting to a purple hue, the 25-year-old crooner picked things back up with a moving performance of his Timbaland collaboration, “Pray.” This time, he was also accompanied by a choir, for an even more soulful take on the latest Thrill of It All single.

After the show, Smith beamed about the experience, tweeting: “Fuck that was a rush.”

Smith’s sophomore album, The Thrill of It All, is due Nov. 3. He will also launch an accompanying tour next summer.

Fuck that was a rush.

Hosted by Gal Gadot, “Saturday Night Live” featured a cold open performance from Jason Aldean, the country star who was on stage during the tragic Las Vegas mass shooting earlier this month. Aldean also performed a cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down,” honoring the iconic musician who died on Monday at the age of 66.
