Video: Camila Cabello – ‘Crying in the Club’

Ain’t no “Crying in the Club.”

After leaving Fifth Harmony and burning up the charts with Machine Gun Kelly’s “Bad Things,” Camila Cabello releases “Crying in the Club,” the lead single and video off her forthcoming debut solo album, The Hurting, The Healing, The Loving.

The song, which she co-wrote with Sia, blends island flavors with intense pop sounds, making it a dance-ready soundtrack for optimism. “Ain’t no crying in the club,” she sings. “Let the beat carry your tears as they fall, baby / Ain’t no crying in the club / With a little faith, your tears turn to ecstasy.”

Meanwhile, the video reflects the track’s cathartic quality. Opening with a black-and-white shot of a somber Camila, the visual offers a preview of her next single, “I Have Questions.” From there, things take a hopeful turn as “Crying in the Club’s” beat drops, moving the singer from a bathtub in her desolate home into a nightclub filled with vibrant dancers and neon colors.

Flashing between black and white and colorful hues, the visual shows Camila dancing her heart out, even as rain falls down on her. In the end, Camila is back in black and white, only this time, she looks free as the sun shines down on her elegantly posed frame.

Speaking to Beats 1 about the Benny Blanco-produced single, Camila explained why it’s part of The Healing section of her new album.

“That was definitely part of The Healing, this song,” she said. “The lyrics are very hopeful, but the beat is very intense. I never just want to make a straight up happy song, it’s just not in my nature. The beat has this very intense, cathartic feeling about it. It was kind of like what the writing process was saying to me. So of the lyrics are ‘Let the music lift you up, like you’ve never been so high. Let the music lift you up, like you’ve never been this free.’ It felt like what this album and this music was and what it was saying to me. You’ll see the music video for it, but the whole thing is very intense and cathartic.”

On Sunday, Cabello will take the stage at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas for the television debut performance of “Crying in the Club.”

The Hurting, The Healing, The Loving is about Cabello’s real life transformation. “[It] is the story of my journey from darkness into light,” she explained. “From a time when I was lost to a time when I found myself again.”

The album is set to feature contributions from heavy-hitters like Pharrell, Charli XCX, Diplo, Stargate, Ryan Tedder, MXM, and more.
